Bible Studyprayer for the sin leading to death ?John Gill's Exposition of the Bible I tend to agree with Gill's explanation on this issue of sin which leads to death, providing one can know when a sinner has committed this sin. It's not that you cannot pray for anyone and everyone who sins, for you certainly can. But I believe many sinners cross the line where their consciences are seared. Not only do they have no desire to repent of their sins, they are incapable of repenting because the Holy Spirit is no longer striving with them, convicting them of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8). David prayed in Psalms 51:11, "do not take Your Holy Spirit from me." It is a very serious matter to not have the convicting presence of the Holy Spirit in one's life. Genesis 6:3 also declares, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever." I believe what John is saying in a backward way is that we should spend most of our time praying for those God's Spirit is dealing with, and leave those alone where one clearly know's God's Spirit is not dealing with. |
