Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesNo OSAS (Revelation 22:19)I hear what you're saying here, and I agree with you. But in my mind, every post you've made is a contradiction to what you've said in this paragraph. You've maintained that those who do not do good works, but practice a lifestyle of bad works, have lost their faith and therefore lost their salvation. How is it that you can believe that, and yet at the same time believe that good works are not required to keep salvation? This seems like a contradiction to me. So, are you using these verses to say that anyone who commits these sins even once is excluded from the kingdom of heaven? Because that's what it sounds like to me. But I believe it does address those who become apostate. Keep reading..... So you are defining "antichrists" to be false prophets who try to deceive others only, not those that they deceive, correct? That's an interesting definition. I wonder if you could provide some Scripture to justify that definition. Because searching for the word "antichrist" in Scripture yields only 5 uses in the entire Bible, and each of those places defines what the word means in the very text. Let's look at them: The first use (3 uses, actually) is in the passage in question here: I John 2:18-22. "18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. 20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son." According to this passage, anyone who denies that Jesus is the Christ is an antichrist. The next use is in I John 4:3. "And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world." According to this verse, anyone who does not believe that Jesus came in the flesh is an antichrist. The last use is in 2 John 1:7. "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist." According to this verse, anyone who does not believe that Jesus came in the flesh is an antichrist. Furthermore, it labels anyone who does not believe that Jesus came in the flesh as a deceiver, or a false prophet. Therefore, everyone who is not saved is a false prophet whether they go around trying to deceive others or not. So, according to these verses, you are incorrect in believing that only those unbelievers who go around preaching lies are false prophets and antichrists. Therefore, you are incorrect in believing that I John 2:18-19 only applies to a certain subset of unbelievers called false prophets because all unbelievers are false prophets. Therefore, I John 2:18-19 applies to all unbelievers, including apostates. |
