HELLO TO ALL - PLUS EPROM
The central question posed by this thread is being overlooked / ignored by almost everyone posting here – even the Forum Administrator.
So it appears we need some re-direction to get us back on the correct path, and perhaps I have not made things clear enough.
This thread seeks to identity exactly what Adam and Eves original sin was. So if you post here, please DONT tell us;·They disobeyed God – we already know that!
·They broke Gods commandment – we already know that!
·They ate the forbidden fruit – we already know that!
·They wanted to be like God – we already know that!
·They rebelled against God – we already know that!
·They acquired the knowledge of good and evil – we know that too!
Please DO tell us this;
·What the knowledge of good and evil was – we want to know this!
Your answer, if it is the true answer, will identify the original sin precisely, and you will be our hero!
I have said I think it was science and technology - I cannot find any other answer that makes sense, and frankly I don’t believe there is another answer that makes sense, but please, give it your best shot, we need focused input here.
Of course you are free to post whatever you like – everyone is welcome here, even me, but if you can’t educate us, then at least try to entertain us, failing which your socks will turn into snakes and your underwear will explode into a thousand pieces!
So if you still choose to post here, you must know something, be funny, or have a serious psychiatric disorder - whichever is the case you will fit in just fine!
Eprom - You have gone off into symbolic horticulture, perhaps I exaggerate a little, but I cant see how this helps. You are a prolific poster with a sharp mind and excellent writing talents, why waste them calling God a sinner yet again - that is where your response again leads.
Your posts show you realize the significance of what I have said, and are challenged by it, but clearly dont want to relinquish your theological notions just yet. However - and please note this well - if we say Adam and Eves sin was one of the generic things I mentioned in the list above, or any similar generic, then we attribute the same to God, we call Him a sinner, a rebel etc, because after Adam had sinned God said Adam had become like Him, knowing both good and evil.
The knowledge of good and evil was posessed by God, it was His knowledge, He created that knowledge, and it was present in Eden and avaliable to Adam and Eve. To say that knowledge was what you have said it was makes no sense at all and slurs God.
Where was this knowledge located? Why it was in the midst of the garden - that is to say, in the midst of Gods creation, in the midst of nature and the elements. So if you want that knowledge, that is where you look for it, in the midst of nature and the elements.
Now God knew that human beings created in His image were intelligent and would find this knowledge pretty fast, so He commanded them not to touch it and warned them if they did, they would surely die, and I believe He meant as a species humanity would become extinct.
So ask yourself, what knowledge is found in the midst of nature and the elements, is available to human beings, and has the potential to bring about human extinction?
Why sceintific and technological knowledge of course - there is no other answer that makes any sense. If you say there is, fine, lets hear it, but please, dont slander our God!
We can spiritualize this if we choose, the Church has done so and before her Israel, that is why nothing anyone has said on this topic since Genesis was written, actually identifies the sin Adam and Eve committed.
I reiterate - the knowledge of good and evil was posessed by God, it was His knowledge, and because it was inherent in nature He could not hide it from us, so He commanded us to leave it alone and warned us we would surely die if we did not leave it alone.
I find nowhere in the bible any reference that suggests even remotely that the death God said would result from human acquisition of the knowledge of good and evil, has been changed or done away with. Rather I find repeated references to end-time destruction, and statements even by Christ telling us that just as it was in the days of Noah so it shall be again - you cannot say that means spiritual destruction, it clearly means a physical catastrophe.
This death that God warned them about is not His punishment on humanity, it is the consequence of messing around with the knowledge He told them not to mess around with. So God cannot remove the coming catastrophe, its not up to Him, its up to us, but He will cut it short for the sake of His people, or all flesh will perish!
I did not write the bible, I am just trying to understand what it actually does say - and what I repeatedly find it says is in sharp contrast to what we have been traditionally told on this subject.
By the way Eprom - humor is fine with me, even a bit of ripping and tearing, I am OK with that sort of thing, indeed I enjoy it to some extent and I see you and others here do too. But your insinuation that I am not in the vine, that is to say, not in Christ, simply because my views are in contrast to your own, is very much out of place Eprom. I am going to overlook it this time, because I know you probably made a slip there, I trust you wont repeat it again? But if you do you only bring condemnation on yourself, and the credibility of your posts. Personally I dont care what anyone thinks, only God, He is all I live for, all I worship and adore, and He knows that, which is all that is important to me.
Still, at this point I could rip your head right off - everyone on this thread will read this post, and some are wondering why I haven't done so. The truth is I love you Eprom, truly I do, you are my brother in Christ. So were I not in the vine as you have suggested, it would not be a shrimp on on my barbie mate, it would be you!
If my comments in response to your first post on this thread offended you, sorry, I was tired and probably not thinking straight, I just wanted to make the point that your comments were insulting to God when taken to their logical extent - though I am sure you did not do that intentionally.
As for my outback suntan, you may be right, I could be going a little mad, but in my own defence I submit the Calgary Stampeed as exhibit one, and rest my case!
It appears you - like all discerning males - have a penchant for vivacious aussie girls, which is understandable of course, aussie women are the best, and I ought to know, I married a Canadian girl! Thats right Bruce - I am a man, and old enough to be your father!
Time to put another fresh Canadian on the barbie, eh mate?
Seriously though, you are a good man, and very talented, and you seem to be seeking to know what is true, that is why I think you will arrive at the same conclusions I have, but it could take a considerable time, you are fighting like a true Canadian Salmom just now, but the line is drawing you in.
When I die, God will render to my account what you do with what I have given you, and I want that account full to overflowing Eprom, so hurry up mate, I aint getting any younger you know!
God love ya
Kerry
