Christian Music ~ Lyrics and Mp3'sChange baby to Jesus!beads wrote: You're point is well made about the verse in Proverbs applying to the sluggard. However, I don't think it should be isolated to just the lazy person, because the verse really isn't in the context of talking about just lazy people. I still believe that trying to do things in our own power will only lead to failure in God's eyes because our sin nature will tarnish anything we can ever accomplish.
I would have to agree with you on that!

A statement I repeatedly use, similar to many other portions of scripture we use to make a point. Sometimes we misuse these verses in our efforts to be holy.
The above mentioned text comes from 1 Corinthians 10:31, but what does it say word for word (NIV)
So whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
The heading for this message in my Bible is "The Believer's Freedom" starting with verse 23 of chapter 10
23&24 "Everything is permissible" - but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible" but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
I believe with all my heart that when we take a young Christian who is filled with a love for the Lord and wants to show this love by writing a song to God. And then we judge that song by our standards as being acceptable or not and condemn their efforts we wound deeper then we can imagine.
I agree that there are songs on the market that contain the name of the Lord and/or scripture that are unacceptable. However, these songs were not presented in a worship service for the purpose of worshipping God. i.e. (done to the glorification of God)
They have been performed for the purpose of worshipping a worldly god MONEY.
There are some churches who believe that no musical instrument besides our God given voices should be used.
(with my voice the lack of some sort of instrument to blend my voice is to my ears a sin) HA
Never the less I make up songs in my head and when I am alone, that are intended to praise the Lord.
I was military, so I make up some marching songs that are intended to praise the Lord.
Some people find country music offensive, others rap, blues, pop etc. etc.
Does their personal taste make the music offensive to God? David was beaten on a tambourine and jumping around so much that he exposed himself. It was not Him the Lord was upset with, it was his sarcastic wife.
Some kneel when they pray, some stand. Does God look at their body's position or their hearts position?
What I am saying is that worship, true worship is not in the music or the words, it is in the heart.
We should guard against our personal doctrinal beliefs becoming stumbling stones to new or weak Christians.
Our Christian walk is a growth process. God will give us the light we are ready and able to walk in.
God bless you all.
