Peace to you Unite,
Yes you are right it is possible and in fact desirable to study chauvinism and its origins among various groups but since this a Christian board I wanted to point out that a discussion of Christian chauvinism does not mean that Christians are the only people who are chauvinistic. The point I was trying to make is that chauvinism is not restricted to any group. It is everywhere, among religious people, whether they are Jewish, Christians, muslims, or Zorostrians, or whether they are not religious.
Regarding Omar I was not referring to any text but just the action itself as an example. Understandably many muslims our proud of that history and how he established a powerful empire and spread Islam. But that is an achievement similar to what the Romans achieved in establishing a far reaching empire. It is not according to Islamic teachings.
About the origins of Christian chauvinism I agree with your original assertion that it has do with European character as they are the home of Christianity (true it started in Israel but it really spread in Europe). All you have to do is look at European history. Every little village thought that they were superior people to their neighbors let alone people from far away with a different religion. This culminated in Hitler and WWII (other people have other glaring bad characters but this appears to be a particular trouble spot for Europeans throughout history). I think that this stands in contrast to Christian teachings and actions of Jesus. Christian teaching has many strong statements such as love thy neighbor, love and forgive even non-believers etc. In other words its origins as you state has a lot more to do with the people who became Christians and comprise most of Christians as opposed to Christianity.
I really like the verse you chose to close your statements with; it along with several others confirms the teachings of Jesus on this topic.
One statement you have that I would really like to discuss in depth is about the pragmatic philosophy. I will try to do that at a later time.
