Perhaps it contains "very little doctrine" that agrees with what YOU believe?
What about the Gospels? They are a "brief history" of the life of Jesus. Do they also contain "very little doctrine"? Imagine how you would scream if Hisway brushed aside Matt.28:19 on the same basis that you you tried to brush off the book of Acts?
The Gospels are biographies of Jesus Christ and are foundational to Christianity. The UPC has used a couple verses out of Acts to develope heretical teachings that work only in English and deny the balance of the NT.
Why would a "biography" of Jesus be "foundational to Christianity" (in DOCTRINE) but a "biography", in essence, of the EARLY CHURCH (Acts) not be? I would think that the record of how the early Church behaved, and quotes from the Apostles in the early Church, would be extremely vital, DOCTRINALLY, to Christians who are supposed to BE the Church today?
Besides, didn't you or Omega quote this verse in passing lately -
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for DOCTRINE..." (2Ti.3:16)
Well, if you didn't, I'm sure you don't DISAGREE with it do you? Is the Book of Acts scripture? Is it then "profitable for doctrine"?
That was me, and you left out the rest of the verse:....
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Yes, I know i didn't quote the rest of the verse - does that change anything? Does the rest of the verse indicate that "all scripture is NOT profitable for DOCTRINE?" Did I take this out of context? (Or did you feel you just had to say SOMETHING?)
Lets see what all scriptures saith:
"Saith"? Does one have to speak "KJ - eese" when one is a "spiritual man"?
Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD. And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 23:31-33
To sum it up, those who claim that their speaking in tongues are a direct revelation from the LORD when it is not, are Condemned.
Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? (do all speak with tongues?) do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. 1 Corinthians 12:29-31
According to hisway ALL ARE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS!
Not only that, according to hisway, those who cannot speak in tongues are
(CONDEMNED) because tongues is a sign of Salvation.
So unless your Baptized and speak in tongues your condemned. Hope you can speak in tongues Brad!
