Science, Creation & EvolutionOur universe and creative designThere's quite a difference here. Both Jones and Koresh had pulled their followers into an enclave, barred from the world. Jesus never did that. Both Jones and Koresh were with their followers, urging them on, exerting peer pressure and present authority to accomplish their goals. Jesus was not there physically during the death of any of the Apostles. Nor had He been gone only a few minutes -- but a number of years. That's plenty of time to recover from being around a lunatic and get back to normal life. But that is not what happened. They were so convinced -- and so changed -- by their encounter with this man, that they spent the rest of their lives teaching as He had taught them. And they also watched lives radically changed by the power of this message. And, after them, thousands upon thousands through time have been killed for not renouncing Jesus Christ. Thousands who never met Him in the flesh but who nevertheless know Him personally, and know He is Lord and God. Men have been impaled, skinned alive, drawn and quartered, burned at the stake, and gone through untold tortures even today simply because they know Jesus is exactly who He said He is: God. It is not anywhere near the cult foillowings Koresh and Jones had and others have today. Jesus Christ sets you free, but it is free to follow Him. And even then, while you may be and should be enouraged by older Christians, it is in truth the Holy Spirit who is your leader and not any man. Far, far different from any other religion on earth. And the only one, by the way, which is at all logical. |
