We were discussing history, not anthropology. And I think my point stands, regardless. There's certainly a historical precedent, if not an unbroken one. But "that's the way it's always been" is <I>not</I> sufficient justification for continued discrimination. I've studied it. I found inconsistancies and illogic -- and accounts of a God I wouldn't <I>want</I> to believe in. But perhaps my mind wasn't open enough. Or maybe it would all make sense if I read it in the original languages, with a complete understanding of all cultural and historical contexts. Who knows? I'm certainly not going to find out. If God exists, and provided a message to humanity, I believe it would be universally comprehensible and convincing. The Bible is not. |
