Joshua through Malachi were written between 1455 and 537 B.C. The NT was written between about 50 and 90 A.D. You can do an Internet search on the chronology of the Bible to get more information. I fail to see why any perceived cultural bias should be taken into consideration when understanding the Bible, however if you read Leviticus God instructs the Hebrews not to practice behaviors (such as homosexuality) that were prevalent in Egypt. One of the many criticisms leveled at Christianity is the Bible is biased against homosexuals, which only displays an ignorance of history since even some Greeks were opposed to the practice. Same gender relationships were tolerated in ancient Greece, however an Athenian citizen who was anal receptive could be stripped of his citizenship. Gay unions were not part of Greek culture. Spartan males were required to marry (marriages were arranged) at age 30 and produce offspring. Failure to do so was a punishable offense. The Roman Empire's attitude toward same gender sexual relationships (as well as divorce) evolved as the Empire expanded. Wealthy Roman citizens acquired educated Greek slaves to tutor their children and these tutors brought Greek philosophy and attitudes to Rome.
