ArchivedJust for sake of my endless questioning mind.I understand your point but I still disagree. I think the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" idea is flawed because guns are designed for no other purpose than killing. If you substitued "knives" or "hammers" in the statement it might makemore sense. Hunting I understand is good because it keeps back the overpopulation of deer and such. But rifles could just as easily be rented rather than sold. Then the number of people taking them home would be dramatically decreased. Or hunting could be a government job rather than a sport. I'm sure that would open up alot of new jobs for unemployed laborers. I only agree with protection in two cases. The military and the police. Handing out guns to regular civilians who don't necessarily have any weapons training is dangerous. In that case, everyone's hands are the "wrong hands". I think if someone felt that they needed to defend themselves from a danergous person before police arrived they should be sold pellet guns. These are non-fatal weapons often used in Europe (by the police!). They'll stop a criminal in his tracks while you run like hell. Meanwhile he's not dead and his family doesn't have to mourn a son or brother or father killed. He may not be a great guy, but does his family deserve the loss? I guess my real problem with the gun industry is not hunting rifles but the endless number of pistols, semi-automatics and sub-machine guns that they produce. Last time I checked, I don't need an oozie to kill a deer. Those weapons are used exclusively by gangs and self proclaimed terrorists. The gun industry knows it, and they make money off of it. If only those wepaons were outlawed outside the military, I'd be happy. Anyway, back to the topic:
Neither sound so ridiculous to me, at least not any more than any other religious belief. Just take an agnostic viewpoint for a second and look at all religions equally. From a completely secular view, don't they all look crazy? I mean come on a rainstorm that flooded the earth? Is there even that much air moisture on the planet? My point is, you may think someone's beliefs are cr@p, but there will always be someone who thinks the same about yours. That's what faith is. You believe regardless of how far fetched it is. |
