All of these Scriptures seem to say that we need to love sinners to some end, and that end being that we do good to them so as not to ruin the testimony of Christ. The agapao love that we are to show to them is to be shown so that they can see the love of God in us, not simply for love's sake. I'm not sure if that makes sense. The only way I can think to phrase it is: We are commanded to show love to them, but not to love them. Does that make any sense? Or am I just playing around with words. And if I am just confusing myself, how do we reconcile God's hatred toward sinners with His command that we love them? |
