Christian Music ~ Lyrics and Mp3'sdecent Christian music? You'll get a wide variety of answers to this question, I'm afraid. The majority of folks that I've run into on this board seem to be of the opinion that if the lyrics are OK, then it's acceptable. I, personally, try to take into account the doctrine of separation when I consider my music. If it sounds like the world, it should be avoided. That whole "abstain from all appearance of evil" thing. I'd recommend reading the book "Why I left the Contemporary Christian Music Movement: Confessions of a Former Worship Leader" by Dan Lucarini, if you haven't read it already. It's a pretty short book, and it's relatively easy reading (it's not a deep, doctoral dissertation). As far as finding some good music.... what are you looking for? Are you trying to find CDs to listen to, or are you actually looking for sheet music for a solo or choir? There are a number of good places to look for CDs, but if you're trying to be on the conservative side, you still do need to be cautious because many publishers are getting more and more liberal to attract more business. Some good names are: - Majesty Music (CDs and sheet music) - Lillenas (CDs and sheet music, some stuff is a little liberal) - Beckenhorst Press (mostly sheet music, I think, and I haven't visited them for a little while so I don't know their current music standards) - Secret Place Music (mostly sheet music; relatively new company, so not a huge selection yet) That's a few to get you started. Once you've looked at them, I'm sure you can get leads to other good music publishers from there. |
