Leon wrote:Even though I am a pro-life Christian, I still feel inclined to sympathise with Geshtinnanna who has endured such hardship.
Consider this: Even though he later asked for forgiveness, did not Job feel self pity, and even questioned God as he was tried? While bemoaning his condition, I recall him saying things such as "Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?" He quite clearly both questioned and implied accusation on the Lord due to the hardship he had been forced to endure. God held a long speech convincing Job of his ignorance, upon which Job admitted it. Now, if Geshtinnanna, one of Gods wonderful creations, can neither see nor hear not feel God, can we truly hold her responsible? I can do naught but respect and understand all people of all religious beliefs, for we are all Gods children, acting out his Will.
If a girl is raped and impregnated, I can understand how one argues that giving birth to the child is not always the best solution. It could lead to the dismay and deaths of the mother, those who she already has responsibility to take care of, as well as the child, under certain conditions. The child could remind the mother of the brutal rape, leading to the mother loosing more and more faith in humanity, in Christ, and even make her not feel any love for the child. A child that grows up unloved, under extremely poor economical conditions, driving her mother insane even - is put up and valued against abortion, which could keep the physical and mental wellbeing of the mother and of her close ones.
If sacrifice is always the right solution, why are we sitting here today with our high tech computers, posting from our modern homes? Do we really need all that we have, in order to be able to live lives lives as good christians? I know that I did not have to buy this computer which I use in order to endure - I could have spent the money on charity instead, but I did not. And neither do I think that anyone here has sacrificed all that he/she could for the benefit of others. 25.000 children die of preventable deceases every single day. How many of those lives could the money from, say, a computer save? Or a new car? Or all the little things we consume?
Leon,
No one person can solve the world's problems but in the event that a person holding a life in their own hands, that person is accountable and responsible for that life. An unborn child is not at fault. Choosing to terminate that life is playing god.
Abortion is simply premeditated murder.
God cherish and value the unborn:
If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart [from her], and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges [determine]. And if [any] mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
Exodus 21:22-23
God even knew the unborn:
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. Before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5
The Lord hath called me from the womb: from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. Isaiah 49:1 KJV
Did not he who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us within our mothers? Job 31:15
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:13-14
Don't let human circumstances cloud the truth:
Rescue those being led away to death, hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say "But we knew nothing of this," does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done? Proverbs 24:11
One's freedom should not be without responsibility and accountability:
Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil. I Peter 2:16
And finally, we should all choose life:
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your children may live, and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice and hold fast to him. Deuteronomy 30:19-20
In His Name,
Eddie
