ArchivedChristian GnosticismNo, John's use of "logos" goes much deeper than the importation of pagan mythology into Christianity. In fact if you have studied John's Gospel it is a good defense against Gnosticism, since John writes the "logos became flesh and dwelled among us". This contradicts the Gnostic concept that divinity cannot touch human flesh or be contained in a human body. Jesus (logos) is the personification of wisdom (sophia) who died, was resurrected, and was assumed into heaven (assumption of sophia). What Christian Gnosticism did was merge Jewish thought with Greek thought and plagerized and modified true Christian doctrine. |
