Christian/Muslim ThreadsSura 89....Jesus Resurrection on the 3rd Day...Greetings Phiz,
Great question…and you are correct, context should be the determining factor when interpreting scriptures. As you can see, I attempt to show the possible range of word meanings in my posts….thus, I try to be as objective as possible…showing the all angles to the situation…and all viewers are encouraged to draw their own conclusions. Thus, in sura 89, and in keeping with Koran as a whole integral unit; the overwhelming preponderance of evidence tells us that this more than likely emanates from Jewish and/or Christian scriptures. This is told to us blatantly all over the Koran. In fact, the authors of the Koran practically fall all over themselves making sure that the reading audience is aware of where they obtained its source material. Thus, for the most part, it really is a straight forward systematic process of determining where in the Holy Bible the Koranic material borrowed itself from. Many times, the Koran will snatch a verse here and there (from the Holy Bible), and then splice them together to make a “fresh” version of old material. Sura 89 has all the ear-markings of material that was taken from the Gospels. In particular, from the Book of Luke… Thus, when you put “AAashrin” into context with the surrounding ayahs, you will easily see that the intended meaning is three nights…
The Koran is an easy read. It is smaller than the NT, and can be read from start to finish in a weeks time…if you press it… I strongly suggest that you avoid the “popular” English renderings such as Yusuf Ali, Pickthal, etc…as these are seriously biased in favor of modern Islamic thinking…which (in most cases) is in stark contrast to what the classic Arabic of the Koran states… I highly recommend a literal translation of the Koran, especially since this is your first time…it does not roll easily off the tongue, however, aside from self-study, it is absolutely light years ahead of the others… You can find it here in PDF format… http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/thi ... lation.htm Yes…. This is what I would do… If you have not done so already, read the Holy Bible cover to cover. I would suggest starting with the NT first, then the OT, and then the NT, once more. After this, roll right into a literal rendering of the Koran. This will take some time, however, the payoff is absolutely huge…as you will have the Biblical information fresh in your mind as you start reading the Koran….of which, you will immediately recognize for your self the astounding masses of material that the authors, who penned the Koranic text, borrowed from the Holy Bible. What amazed me the most was the absolutely gargantuan/enormous/stupendous usage of the the Koranic usage of Book of revelation material. It borders on the unbelievable. And to think that every Muslim that you ask will vehemently deny that the Book of Revelation material is contained in the Koran… I really have to laugh when I see them deny the obvious…however, I also realize that 99% of Muslims are completely ignorant of what their Koran states, or where it came from… If you take my advice, you will become one of the few who actually knows the truth… Take care… |
