In 1979 when Anita was doing her thing I was a gay activist and supported the boycott. I agree that Anita got what she deserved. I also agree that economic boycotts can be useful, but they can also backfire.
Also, Tommy J you totally missed the point I was making concerning pickets and the AIDS pandemic. Those men and the media who splashed their pictures across the nation contributed to the stereotypes that are wrong. And the fact you used "dildos" in your rebuttal simply strenghtens the stereotype.
When abortion is used a birth control it is not only immoral, but has been shown to be detrimental to women who have abortions. This is a complex subject that has become a rallying cry for liberals and feminists that has buried sound medical knowledge for political reasons. I know at least one woman who had an abortion who deals with the psychological trauma that you never hear about from abortion advocates. You might be suprised how many women get abortions without any thought to the long-term consequences.
I find it interesting you did not bring up the boycott of a Denver tea company that refused to donate $100,000 to the effort by Colorado gays to defeat a constitutional amendment they opposed. This was nothing more than economic blackmail. Celestial Seasonings is not and never has been anti-gay. BTW, that boycott failed because the owner refused to be blackmailed.
