The faux premise that evolution is somehow not based on fact and is simply a nice idea to anger die hard Christians seems amplified in the southern United States (funny how they seem to still argue the validity of evolution and yet no other place on Earth does).
In anycase, no amount of bickering will disprove evolution as being a scientifically valid theory (oh, but it's only a theory, just like gravity which has no basis in reality either, right?). If people want to really question the theory, then go ahead. But propose an alternative using science and don't say "Goddidit!" and stick your fingers in your ears.
Evolution is an important part of my career field and I don't see anyone in the field I work in questioning it. Only those with an axe to grind and know nothing about it.
