ArchivedAre people in Heaven/Hell right now?JESUS SAID NO SUCH THING! (Luke 23:42) And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. The malefactor asked Jesus of Nazareth to remember him in the day that Jesus of Nazareth comes into his Kingdom i.e. the malefactor recognized that Jesus of Nazareth, is the Messiah, the Son of GOD, the designated, appointed king of the Kingdom of GOD Therefore, when Jesus comes in his kingdom at his second coming [e.g. Mt 19:28, 25.31, Lk 19:11ff, 21.27], the malefactor wanted to enter into his Kingdom also, with all the saints i.e. the first resurrection Jesus therefore replied ... (Luke 23:43) And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee To day, shalt thou be with me in paradise. Jesus assured him on that day, the day of their crucifixion, that he shall be in Paradise! Paradise is a synonym for the Kingdom of GOD. Christ was saying ... "Truly I say to you TO DAY, you will be with me in paradise. The comma ought to follow the word 'day' (For similar expressions using the word 'day' in this manner, see Dt 6.6, 8.11, 11.8, 11.13, 11.28, 13.18, 19.9, 27.4, 30.18, 31.2, Acts 20.26) Besides, neither Christ nor the malefactor went to Heaven that day, the day of their death. They were BOTH dead and therefore, in Sheol/Hades, the place of dead; Christ being there 3 days [Mt 12.40, Acts 2.27,31; 13.35-37], whilst the rest of the dead are still there i.e. still dead. Christ went on to say in (John 20:17) Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Hence, Christ had still not yet ascended to his Father i.e. he never went to heaven prior to that day! Paradise comes from the word meaning 'garden'; depicting the idyllic, utopian conditions of this restored planet when the Kingdom of GOD is inaugurated upon the earth; esp. the restored garden of Eden, which contains the tree of life. [Rev 2.7, 22.2]. This is what all the OT saints and patriarchs looked forward to (e.g. Heb 11.8-13,39). This is also what the NT saints look forward to ... to enter the Kingdom of GOD at their resurrection; to enter Paradise here on this planet! This planet restored! "Paradise" therefore, is a future reality, a future restoration and fulfilment of what has been lost through the fall of man, to be expected following Christ's coming and the resurrection.
