ArchivedYou dis-agree with it?All of mankind is born with an orientation for sin. No man or woman is worthy of salvation, which is why we are "saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ." The nation of Israel was established as a theocracy governed by the Laws of God. In many ways the Levitical Law is quite practical. Improperly prepared pork and seafood are dangerous to our health; clothes of mixed material will shrink at differing rates this also emphasized purity. The full Biblical tithe is 33 1/3% and was to fund the state, feed the poor and support the Levites. I see the OT emphasis on blood in light of “life is in the blood”. Today we know that many diseases are carried and transmitted through contaminated blood products. Parts of the Law (such are the morality laws and the 10% tithe) preceded the giving of the full Law, etc. And don’t forget what Paul says about the Law in Romans: The word translated “testament” can be better translated “covenant”, which shows the Old and New covenants to be legal documents and can be read and studied as such. Those who view the Bible simply as a book of “religion” are missing its full impact. Many Christians view Biblical promises as absolutes when in reality a great many of them are conditional. God will if man will for example: “Ask what you will and it will be done for you” is conditioned upon “If you abide (live) in Me and my words abide (live) in you". Leviticus 18:22 is thrown in the faces of gay men to show that homosexual activity is an “abomination” yet most Christians ignore what else the Bible labels an “abomination” since this would require living a life of purity impossible by strength of character alone. How many Christians do you know who practice “lying”? One of the 10 Commandments is “You shall not lie”; Proverbs 6:17 and 19 call lying and perjury an abomination; Revelation 21:8 equates liars with the immoral “and will be in the Lake of Fire”. What about adultery? Leviticus 18:26 labels all the sins listed in Leviticus 18 an abomination. The Bible and prejudice make strange bedfellow. |
