i realize the predate stuff. but abraham did not "tithe" according to the law of moses, which is the way it is taught now. I agree that if the Spirit leads to give a tenth [not a tithe commanded by law] one should do so.Law giving carries with it a curse. Giving under the divine influence of grace is totally differant.
Most hirelings use Malachi as a proof text, and that bit of scripture says something along the lines "i will curse you if you don't". Jesus bore all the curse of the law for us. Why do I want to place myself back under the weak and beggerly things of the law, when I can walk with joy and thanks giving according to the Grace of God, and never incure a curse?
I believe in giving, for the heart of God is a giver. Not to brag, but I garantee you it is more than 10%.
As a matter of fact Paul said that God meets our basic needs, then gives seed to the sower. I believe that once our sufficentcy is met, the rest is for sowing into the Gospel. God would not have us burdened, and another relieved.
Once again, that is not how giving is taught in most churches, and TV evangalist. They go right to the Law, and brutilize, and cowerse people into providing them a lavish living.
Law giver advocate Benny Hinn is reported to take in 50 million a year. Much of which comes from little ole widow ladies which is who we are supposed to take care of with our giving, not squeeze every last dime out of with funky law doctrine.
