Science, Creation & EvolutionBy accident? It may have been some time ago, but I don't think it is now. The first explanation we look for is a natural one. However the fact that God is the ulitmate cause is also seriously taken by most people, regardless of who they think "God" is. Whether or not the ancients understood the geological and meteorological causes of such things, the fact they they ascribed the ultimate cause to an angry deity makes perfect sense. They were closeer to the time when God's anger had been well-known to men and the history of the Flood and the warnings about evil behavior carried through in all cultures for a long time. It is man's foolishness to deny God's anger with sin now, not his wisdom. There has been warning judgment in the past and there will be final judgment in the future. That needs to be taken very, very seriously. All that means is that we permitted ourselves to be satisfied with a purely natural explanation. What about the timing? What about which particular people were killed or harmed and which particular people escaped injury? Do you consider all this an accident, an arbitrary twist of fate? It's not quite what you think. Linguistically, we can connect the names of the gods of different cultures to very few originals. "Zeus", for instance, is simply a form of "Deus" -- God. Other 'gods' can be traced back to some of the earliest folks off the Ark and their immediate descendants. Even our word "chaos" comes from "Cush" -- the father of Nimrod. Cush, so the extra-biblical stories go, designed the Temple of Babel, while Nimrod was responsible for its building. Many of these early rebels also came down through history as some of the pagan gods. God Himself is/was often recognized under one name or another as the Supreme Creator and Judge. If you go back and study your old legends and stories, some very surprising patterns may catch your attention. The ancients were not stupid. But, like many modern men, preferred man's ways to God's way. This resulted in the crazy mixed up pantheon of gods we find across the world. Here we are treading on slightly different ground. Darwin and those of his day considered cells to be tiny blobs of 'stuff'. As science -- and microscopes -- have improved, we have been able to look deeper and deeper into the mystery of the cell and found them far, FAR more complicated than we ever imagined. Their complexity is such that there is no mathematical possibility that this type of complexity arose by chance. There is every mark of intelligent design in the cell. Not to acknowledge that is deliberate ignorance. We know enough now to know about entropy, and to know that local changes which occasionally can decrease entropy eventually give way to destruction/entropy. To deny an intelligent design in the cell is to deny mathematics, physics, and chemistry in one fell swoop. It is deliberate and sustained suppression of the truth. You can't be serious! |
