Let me share one experience I read from a woman who never spoke in tongues until one day at her church she did. What she wrote is she stood and delivered a message that was not interpreted by anyone. After the service a man who have been visiting that day approached her and told her that she had explained the gospel in his native tongue.
I was attending a charimatic Baptist church when one person spoke in tongues. After he finished 2 men attempted to interpret what was said and started with 2 different interpretations. This sealed my skepticism is the gift of tongues being practiced in most churches today.
The tongues of Acts was given so the gospel could be spread throughout the world; the tongues Paul teaches edifies the person not the Body of Christ. I know people who I trust that come from many denominations who have told me they have spoken in tongues, usually in private, so I reject the Baptist Church position on tongues as one of those who shared his personal experience is Ralph Neighbor who is the father of the current home church or cell church movement in the U.S. and was a Southern Baptist pastor and missionary in Singapore.
