Archivedeternal securityBy quoting this verse out of context you are putting words into the Mouth of God. That is something I would be careful about! In context it says Hebrews 4:2; For unto us(Christians) was the good news preached, as well as unto them(Israelites): but the word preached did not profit them(Israelites), not being mixed with faith in them(Israelites) that heard it. Hebrews 4:6; Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they(Israelites) to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief. It's not referring to Christians but the Israelites Spiritual Inheritance that was promised to them in Canaan which they didn't Inherit because of unbelief. The Promise Exodus 3:8,17,18 The Unbelief Numbers 13:17-33 I told you he was referring to the proverb Proverbs 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. A fool as said in his heart there is no God. That's a sign of unbelief. Peter knew the 2nd part in the proverb and so did his readers. There are many different kinds of people in the church nowdays. 1) Those who are not saved but just play church because it's a country club to them or a place to make business contacts. 2) There are people who are saved but will never see heaven because they will leave the church because of future unbelief! 3) There are people who are saved and will keep the faith and enter the promise land!
The Hebrews problem was that they was reverting back to Judaism which includes scarfices, being back under the Law, Temple worship(Which was still standing), etc Christians can do same thing by living in the world or converting to atheism or Islam, etc The letter was written to the converted Jews still living in Jerusalem before it was destoryed. That would put it around 60ad since the temple was destoryed in 70ad. Why don't you actually sit down and actually study the book for the first time in your life? Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. You seem to forget even what the word believeth means? It's a verb of action! Strong's Number: 4100 Transliterated: pisteuo Phonetic: pist-yoo'-o Text: from 4102; to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit; by implication, to entrust (especially one's spiritual well-being to Christ): --believe(-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with. |
