In order to be saved from something and recieve "salvation" we need to be faced with some sort of threat.
So who or what are we supposed to seek salvation from?
We appear to need salvation from God.
What`s the threat we face?
An eternity of agonized torture.
So in effect we should turn to God to ask him to save us from himself.
Does salvation make sense when the person saving you is also the person threatening you?
If a thief holds a knife to your throat, says he loves you and is willing to save you from his own violence as long as you empty your wallet, would you think he was so merciful?
Would you be thankful you were in that position to be saved, or would you think he was a seriously messed up psychopath?
