Luke:22 " I will not drink of the fruit of the vine... Surely, this is not blood or changed to blood, which would be cannibalism. Also, its not a miracle unless the physical changes. GOD has not dealt with man on that level. For example: What if Jesus said "Larazus come forth" only to remain in the grave?.
"This is my body, given for you" When was his body given? The next day, when he died on the cross. So, you see, this was an illustration, or figurative speech, of actual events the next day. "Do this in rememberence of me" If it was actually him, why would he say "in rememberence of me?" He would have said... Do this, because it is me.
Those that were weak or sick were doing so in an unworthy manner. They were going to the LORD'S Supper in other to stuff themselves with food, to cut in line ahead of others, etc. It had nothing to do with believing in the real presence.
Whosurdaddy, what is your view of John 6:25-59 and 1 Cor 11:17-34? The latter verses to me mean that the bread and wine are the Body and Blood of Lord Jesus
27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. 32 When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
John 6:51, 53-57
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 53 Jesus asid to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flash and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my my blood is real drink . 56 Whoever eats my flash and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me ans I live because of the Faher, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
When I go to receive sacrements, I go because I believe in Lord Jesus' death and resurrection. I prepare myself by fasting after midnight, praying and confessing sin. I believe that He came to save us. For reasons I still don't understand, He loves us that He died for people. I want to be Lord Jesus' friend and I want to live a good Christian life and learn about love and help people. Receiving the Mystery of Communion helps me do that.
I guess deep down I believe in both the Real Presense and also that we do it in rememberance of His sacrifice. It was His sacrifice that we are able to be God's friend and to live a good life and to one day be with Him. Without the crucifixion, there is no forgiveness of sins and without the resurrection, there is no victory over death. I see this when I receive His grace and spirit when I receive communion. What are your views on this, whosurdaddy?

John 6: I think this event occurred 1 year before the Last Supper so it has nothing to do with that. Notice the words..."I will raise him up at the last day" vs.44 "No one can come to me unless the Father draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day." So simply believing in Jesus, or coming to Jesus is the same as eating his flesh and drinking his blood. Or using a figure of speech(eating the flesh) is the same as coming to Jesus. Notice vs. 65. It can't be literal since no one ate Jesus, did they? Did anyone drink his blood? No, that is nonsense. Cannibalism is condemned by the Jews. I know its confusing because some those present interpreted Jesus literally(as you do) and they left. Notice vs. 60 Notice also verse 64. Those that interpreted Jesus literally, did not believe in him.

Notice the word "therefore"; its a summary of events. Notice vs 22 "Don't you have homes to eat in? Do you despise the church, etc. They were weak, sick and being judged not because they didn't believe in the "real presense" but because they came to church on a empty stomach, eating as much as possible, cutting in line, etc. Notice Paul stills calls it bread... "therefore whoever eats THIS BREAD", after the so called conscreation. I know this seems confusing. Sometimes you have to read it many times to make sense of it. ( 1Corint. 11 and John 6.) Kevin
