Revelation and Prophecy :: EschatologyThe 7 Hills of RomeDear Omega, We all know that Rome was the king which "is" during the time that through the power of the Holy Spirit John wrote the book of Revelation. That makes your statement that Rome was the 6th king correct. However, since Rome was the 6th king, then it did *not* fit the description of Rev 17:11 which says that the beast that *was*, and *is not*, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. "the beast that was" *has to mean* from the first 5 kings which are fallen! also, the beast that "is not" does not fit king 6 which "is" during John's time. 10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. Rev 17:10-11 (KJV) So, what do we have? The beast "was" so it has to be from the first 5 kings (therefore it can't be Rome). The beast "is not" during John's time (therefore it can't be Rome).
The first 5 kings are fallen by John's time. The 6th king (Rome) "is" during John's time. The 7th king was not yet as of John's time (The Mohammedan empire was comprised of the area where Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, and the king of the N and the king of the S from the Greek empire were; and it continued a short while.) And the beast that *was* and *is not* during John's time (the eighth king or antichrist kingdom) will be / is a "revised Mohammedan empire" which is of the seven and will go into perdition. 18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth. Rev 17:18 (KJV) That great city is Jerusalem (representing Judaism) which reigns over the kings of the earth. The 10 horns on the beast will hate the harlot (nation of Israel) and will attack her and burn her with fire. Ezek 38:2-8 lists the nations who along with Gog will invade Israel in the latter years. And they are *all Muslim nations*. Does anyone doubt that those nations hate the nation of Israel and will one day attack her? There is no mention of Rome in that list. And Rome is not Gog. Nor is Russia for that matter. In order to figure out who Gog is, simply make a list of all persons, peoples, and nations which 2 or more of the OT prophets said would come against Israel. Per Ezek38:17 Gog would have to be in that list. (Neither Rome nor Russia would be on the list.) On the other hand, Babylon, Assyria, and the Chaldeans are on the list. And Babylon, Assyria, and the Chaldeans can all be represented by one modern day country. 17 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them? Ezek38:17 (KJV) Here is a question for those of you who believe that Rome is the harlot and that the beast will be a "revised Roman empire": Do you really believe that a "revised Roman empire" would hate Rome and attack her? Wouldn't that be like saying that America hates Washington D.C. and that America will attack it? And even though that makes no sense to me; even if it were true, then how would that have anything to do with the invasion of Israel, or Armageddon? And if the European nations (which are predominately Christian) are the "bad" guys, then who are the Muslim nations of the middle east? The good guys? And why think that the Pope, the RCC, NATO, or the EU will "one day" make war against Christians and kill them and ignore the Muslims who are doing it right now? Makes no sense to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm *not* on the side of the Pope and the RCC. The RCC probably *is* a harlot, but not the "mother of harlots". Jerusalem (on 7 mountains) representing Judaism was a harlot long before the RCC even existed. And the Muslims surrounding Israel *are* antichrists according to 1John and 2John. (They deny the Son of God. They say that God has no Son.) And we know from Scripture (Ezek38) that they will attack Israel in the *latter days*, so we are not talking about the Assyrian invasion of Israel from history, nor are we talking about king Agag of history. I can't understand why everyone hangs on to the idea of a "revised Roman empire" when that would contradict Scripture. Yours in Christ, John Reno |
