The word dinosaur means big lizard. This fascination with dinosaurs began with the first discovery of a huge thighbone (femur) that was found in England by Reverend Plot in 1676. R. Brookes published a report of this giant animal finding in 1763. It is often ignorantly stated that the Bible doesn’t mention these giant animals.
In the very first book of the Bible, the book of Genesis we find the account of the pre-flood conditions on the earth. In Genesis chapter 6 in verse 4 we read, “There were GIANTS in the earth in those days …” Also, in the book of Job chapter 40 verse 15 through verse 24 is a description of an enormous land animal exactly what man discovered thousands of years later through archeology and paleontology. Remember that the word dinosaur was not invented until 1841. “Behold now behemoth (land animal of monstrous size) … his strength is in his loins…he moveth his tail like a cedar (tree trunk) his bones are as strong as pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. Surely the mountains bring him forth food (humongous appetite) behold, he drinketh up a river (enormous drinking capacity)…his nose pierceth through snares “(speaks of a large horn like creature - perhaps a Triceratops). This is an ancient description of a humongous Reptilian Creature of monstrous size and power. Also in chapter 41 of the book of Job along with chapter 27 of the book of Isaiah both describe an enormous sea creature called leviathan. Again, giant land animals and giant sea creatures were described in the Bible thousands of years before modern man discovered them. The Bible also gives one possible reason for their disappearance, “…thou brakest the heads of the dragons (medieval term for a dinosaur) …thou brakest the heads of leviathan …and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness” Psalm 74:13,14. Apparently many were hunted to instinction.
