OK lemme try something here.... Here's three versions of Exodus 20:4-5....
Exodus 20:4-5 (KJV)
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Exodus 20:4-5 (NIV)
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
Exodus 20:4-5 (NIrV)
4 "Do not make statues of gods that look like anything in the sky or on the earth or in the waters.
5 Do not bow down to them or worship them. I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God. I punish the children for the sin of their parents. I punish the grandchildren and great grandchildren of those who hate me.
OK. So reading it like that, it looks to me like a statue is just a statue, unless you consider it an idol, or god, and worship it. If you do that you're wrong, but if you don't, you're OK. What do you guys think?
