At the same time. The New Testament quotes this. Luke explains that Mary arose in those days and went to the hill country into the city of Judah and then she entered the house of the Priest Zacharias, and Zacharias's wife Elisabeth suddenly became pregnant and then also suddenly did Mary. Hence Luke the disciple of Jesus began the tale of the virgin birth of Jesus and of John. luke 40/42, onwards the story say that Elisabeth and Mary fell pregnant at the same time and in the same way. It was claimed of course that Mary was a Virgin to satisfy the Prophecy of Isaiah and that Elisabeth was not. But either way elisabeth was barren. And the disciples needed to use John to proclaim Jesus at a future time. ( although none of the disciples were present at these births but came along when Jesus was an adult to speak on these things for their own reasons. John and Jesus are acclaimed as being born of a supernatural birth and from the same source. And both proclaimed to being born by the word of the angel Gabriel (who had originated as a man that Daniel the dreamer had dreamt up. |
