ArchivedDemonology And Disclosing The Mystery Behind Allahs Name...I think maybe I can help you out there OneGod, but in doing so, Believer, I wonder if you can clarify what you meant about Moses only being given permission to write the law.. but that the ten commandments came from God. Are you meaning that you don't believe that the rest of the law was from God at all? In chapter 20, Moses is given the ten commandments by God.. (Jesus later sums them up in two commandments... duty to God and duty to Others). Mankind has a two fold moral duty that will never change.. that is to love God and love others. Jesus said that he had come to fulfill this law .. and as a believer in His death and resurrection, I believe He showed the greatest love any one has seen on this earth. But, it didn't stop there.. for into chapter 21 there continues the civil laws of society the Israelites were expected to follow. .. and these continue to chapter 23. But in case you think they couldn't have come from God.. note that again in chapter 24 of Exodus, the Mosaic covenant is again given uttered. God has taken Moses onto MT Sinai, He has allowed no other people on the mount, for they couldn't look on His holiness and live. .. Now here is the key to it all.. immediately following the giving of the law.. in chapters 25 - 40 is the discussion on the Tabernacle of worship.. and the way to approach God in worship. you have to see that this follows the law.. and the law was given not to give access to God, but to show mankind.. that living the life of moral duty to God and Man was impossible.. but the way to approach God had it's picture in the Tabernacle (God's presence on the earth with His people) and it's fulfilment in Christ. I will post another post to show how this is true, but look what happens now in chapter 32-34... even as Moses is being given the Law by God.. the Isrealites fall back into idolatry. Now move into Leviticus. Leviticus is given to teach the Israelites how to worship.. the way to the HOLY ONE and the way to holiness. We find in Leviticus amongst all the rules for worship, the judicial way to God and the practical walk with Him. here we see introduced the sacrifice and the priesthood as the way to God, and the purificiation laws show the practical walk with God.. but notice, it's not just clensing and purification of body that is necesssary, there is a demand for purification of soul as well. ..and the feasts are given to describe the way to a sense of purification. Again, I can show you how Christ fulfilled all of this.. but not in this thread Now.. .let's skip Numbers and go to Dueteronomy.. the Instruction of the Nation. Dueteronomy is a review of the history of Israel and a renewal of the covenant between the people and God.. it's conditional and unconditional.. they WILL be blessed, but only in obedient living. Dueteronomy also provides a reinstatement and reinterpretation of the laws and ordinances God had given the nation.. it is God's instruction on how to live in the Promised Land.. Now.. notice in chapters 5-26, the laws are recited and then reinterpreted to meet the needs of the current generation, who are not the same group as came out of Egypt. this is the new generation who possessed the promise land.. their parents had died out. Okay.. my apologies for this being so long.. Now please turn to chapter 5 of Matthew Jesus begins a long discourse about the role of the law in the life of the people. He begins in 5:17 by saying "Do not think I have come to abolish the Law and the Prophets.. I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them." He then uses examples from the law and redefines them.. just as Moses had done earlier.. redefining them for the current generation.. but notice, He never once said that God had not given the Laws to Moses in the forms they were given originally. If He Jesus is God, then He wrote the commands then He had every right to redefine them.. but He didn't abrogate in any form the purpose for the laws.. (holy living), the limitations of the law (impossible to live upto in totality) the principle of the law (love God and love your neighbour as yourself). Mark 10:1-12 explains this fully. There is no way we can say the old testament laws were not given completely by God. We can not say that God did not tell the Israelites, that if they didn't live upto the laws, they would be punished. The covenant promises .. were so wrapped up in the Law, that there is much much more involved than in just obeying them.. and jesus showed this in his discussions with the rich young ruler (Mark 10:17-22) I don't know if this helps.. but it does show that ALL the Laws were given by God.. they had a purpose, but they had a limitation and only in Jesus who is the fulfilment of the purpose of the Law do we see sense in them God bless everyone Carol |
