Wesley Clark Says He Doesn't "Believe in Abortion," Then Backpeddles
Chattanooga, TN (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-abortion Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark is under fire again for his comments on abortion and subsequent backpedaling. While campaigning in Tennessee on Wednesday, Clark told a voter, "What you've got to do is you really have got to work with families and you really got to help people understand what their choices are and not do the wrong thing because I don't believe in abortion."
On Thursday, Clark clarified his position with reporters traveling with his campaign. "I would hope that [abortion] would be done only on rare occasions, but it's a woman's right to choose. It's a private matter and I support the Supreme Court. I support Roe v. Wade. And I support a woman's right to choose,'' the Clark told reporters.
Brian Harris of Tennessee Right to Life isn't surprised at the turn of events. "As he travels across rural Tennessee, there is no doubt that Clark will be encountering many pro-life Democrats who want to know his true position on human life," Harris told LifeNews.com.
Carol Tobias, the National Right to Life PAC director told LifeNews.com that Clark is "awkwardly trying to find the right words to look like a 'moderate' on abortion. However, saying he "doesn't believe in abortion" won't fool pro-life voters should he win the nomination.
Now, either you believe in abortion or you don't. You can't say, "I don't believe in abortion," and then turn around and say, "But I support the Roe v. Wade decision," because that decision led up to the legalization of the murder of unborn children. Make up your mind, Wesley.
When Pregnant Moms are Attacked, Unborn Children are Victims Too
by Douglas Johnson
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The U.S. Senate has never debated or voted on unborn victims legislation, but that has not stopped John Kerry, the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination, from opposing it. A Newsweek poll found that 84 percent of Americans believe that if an attack against a pregnant woman kills both mother and unborn child, the attacker should be charged "for two murders instead of one. But for Senator John Kerry, none of that matters. As early as last summer, he was sending letters to constituents that dutifully parroted the party line of the pro-abortion advocacy groups against the bill. But Kerry has been challenged by a figure now recognized by many millions of Americans: Sharon Rocha, Laci Peterson's mother, Conner's grandmother. In a letter to Kerry, Rocha said that by not passing the bill, "Congress would be saying that Conner and other innocent victims like him are not really victims indeed, that they never really existed at all."
Mrs. Rocha may never read this, but she has my full support. Killing any child - especially one that is still in the womb - is inexcusable, and the murderer should be punished accordingly.
Houston, Texas Hotel Kicks Out Pro-Life Group's Press Conference
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Officials with the Houston Coalition for Life say they were booted out of the Westin Galleria in Houston after Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion operation, exerted pressure on the hotel. Planned Parenthood was holding its annual "Celebrating Roe v. Wade" luncheon at the Westin and complained to the hotel's management that the pro-life group should not be allowed to hold a news conference inside the hotel. "Apparently the state's largest abortion provider has something to hide, because once the press release about the Coalition for Life news conference was distributed across Houston, Planned Parenthood executives called the hotel and pressured them to cancel our meeting room reservation," said Helen Posvar of the group. The coalition had to hold its Wednesday news conference outside the hotel. The press conference was to announce a local effort to strip funding from Planned Parenthood. Westin Galleria hotel officials did not respond to LifeNews.com's request for comment.
Apparently, members of Planned Parenthood have never heard of the First Amendment, which clearly states that the citizens of the United States have the right to hold press conferences wherever they want to, whenever they want to. It falls under the Freedom of Speech clause.
