"That great city" of Revelation
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
Rev 11:8 (KJV)
Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem.
Mystery, Babylon the Great is "that great city".
8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Rev 14:8 (KJV)
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
Rev 17:18 (KJV)
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
Rev 18:10 (KJV)
16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
Rev 18:16 (KJV)
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
Rev 18:19-20 (KJV)
Note: the prophets were killed in Jerusalem and God will avenge them by destroying that great city were they were killed.
33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
Luke 13:33-34 (KJV)
10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
Rev 21:10 (KJV)
Why have a *new* Jerusalem if the old Jerusalem still exists?
And even if the word "mother" is taken figuratively, it still implies that the "daughters" came from it. Did the harlots Rome and Jerusalem come out of the USA? Was the USA the "mother" of Rome and Jerusalem, even "figuratively"?
And I can say for a Scriptural fact that the prophets were killed in Jerusalem and that God says that He will avenge the prophets by destroying that great city that killed them.
And Jerusalem does "fit" the Scriptural description of Mystery, Babylon the Great much better than any other city. Rome sits on 7 hills, but Jerusalem sits on 7 mountains. Jerusalem was a harlot (per Scripture) long before Rome was and thousands of years before America even existed. Jerusalem is where our Lord was crucified and where the prophets were killed. And Jerusalem is hated by Muslims (antichrists per John's definition) and it is their goal to destroy her. Which they will, fulfilling God's promise to avenge the prophets. Then there will be a New Jeruslem which will descend out of heaven after the old Jerusalem is destroyed.
Yours in Christ,
John Reno
